Internal commands are an integral part of the RIO-OS program code. Only the bold part of the name is necessary for the detection of the command. The other characters you can enter optional. Internal commands are case insensitive. External programs and utilities are executable files (binaries or procedure files) on the floppy or hard disk and only loaded into memory for execution. Therefore, they must be entered as they are stored as a file. RIO usually uses capital letters.

[ LLOCATE ] (Book) Allocates Memory
Marks a memory area as allocated in the system memory map.
[ RIEF ] (Book) Brief Mode
Turns off the command line echo
[ LOSE ] Closes a single logical unit or all logical units
DEA [ LLOCATE ] (Book) Frees reserved memory
Marks a previous allocated memory area as unallocated in the system memory map.
[ EBUG ] Enters the ROM resident RIO debugger
(Part of the ROM Monitor)
[ ORCE ] Force to load a program, even if the required memory space is already allocated
[ NITIALIZE ] (Book) Sends an initilize request to a device
[ ELEASE ] (Book) Deallocates any allocated Memory
[ ERBOSE ] (Book) Verbose Mode
Turns on the command line echo
[ eq ] Executes the last loaded command

External Commands

ACTIVATE (Book) Activates a pheripheral device
It loads its drivers into the memory and registers the device with the RIO-OS.
CAT List the entries in the file system directories

COMPARE Compares two files
Compares at byte level
CONVERT Convert Files from older (OS 2.1) Zilog disks to RIO
Copy and convert all files from an OS 2.1 disk (ZDOS-I file system) to a RIO disk (ZDOS-II file system).
COPY Copy files
COPY.DISK Copies a whole disk at block level
COPYSD Copies a single file using only one (1) disk drive

DATE (Book) Displays or sets the system date
DEACTIVATE (Book) Deactivates a peripheral device
It deregisters the device at RIO-OS and removes its driver from memory.
DEFINE Assigns a logical unit number to an active device.
DELETE Delete files from disk
DISK.FILE.DEBUG File- and disk debugger at sector level

DISK.FORMAT Format a hard disk

DISK.REPAIR Repairs the file system on a hard disk

DISK.STATUS Shows the hard disk statistics

DISPLAY Shows the system memory allocation table

DO Batch processing
Executes commands from a batch file or command file. Some parameter expansion features avialable.
DUMP Hexadecimal and ASCII dump of a file
ECHO Echoes his command arguments to the console output device
(e.g. for message output in command files)
ERROR Prints the description of a numeric error code
ERRORS (Book) Show error counters
Prints the error counters of the FLOPPY driver
EXTRACT Shows the properties of a file
(e.g. record length, record count)
FILE.DEBUG File- and disk debugger at sector level
For floppy disks
FF Form Feed utility
Sends an ASCII form feed to Unit 3 (SYSLST)
FORMAT Formats a floppy disk
HELP (Book) Displays help text for programs
IMAGE Creates a procedure file from memory
LADT List Active Device Table
Shows the active logical devices
LIST Sends an ASCII file to Unit 3 (SYSLST)
MASTER Shows or sets the Masterdevice
MEM Memory diagnostc utility
Tests the RAM memory
MOVE Copy files
PATCH Patch utility for files
Allows the user to append a new segment of code to an existing RIO procedure file,
or to modify bytes in any kind of file without program relinking.
PAUSE Waits until any key is pressed
Useful in command files for batch processing
PRINT Sends an ASCII file to Unit 3 (SYSLST)
RENAME Rename files
RESTORE_TABS Loads the console tab settings from a file
SAVE_TABS Saves the console tab settings to a file
SET (Book) Sets several system parameters
